Put 300 rounds through it yesterday. Ran flawlessly and shot more accurately than I ever imagined.

I'll have to wait until I shoot an outdoor, day-time match to make judgments about the Novak sights. The green fiber optic dot seems huge when shooting the indoor range.

I practiced drawing and firing in prep for local IDPA matches.

Sometimes I would choke up when drawing and almost get bit by the hammer. Couple of times I got "pinched", and it became a distraction.

SO...on my way home from the range I dropped it off with the gunsmith and told him to go ahead and fit the Ed Brown stainless beavertail I'd purchased but didn't have him install when he put it together the first time.

This is my grail Colt for shooting matches, and I'm going to keep it and shoot it.

That is a very pretty gun. What's it coated with?

I think the ED Brown Grip Safety will an excellent addition to the pistol. Looks good to me!

I definitely think the EB GS would be very nice. I have an affinity for them myself.

    Mine was a rookie mistake.

My gunsmith originally told me he had everything done but machining the frame to fit the Ed Brown beavertail safety. (I'd already bought it.)

After two months I was so eager to get it back and shoot it, I told him to just let me have it.

I should have been patient and let him completely finish the gun before I grabbed it from him and smoked it up.:embarassed:

His family is carrying on the business.

Just call 'em and talk to Susan.

    Great people to deal with.

That is very good to hear. I've talked to Walter several times over the years...he always seemed to be a extreme class act.

another 250 rounds through it Saturday

The gun performed flawlessly. Shot accurately, cycled dependably until I tried to run a last 50 rounds of Blazer brass through it.

By that time the new gun had about 500 rounds through it without cleaning.

After 500 rounds of Winchester White Box, the first mag of Blazer didn't feel right.

The action wasn't cycling as smoothly and with the same "authority". I think the Blazer ammo was just too underpowered for the dirty action. Eventually it wouldn't extract and cycle.

I lubed the slide and extractor, and that fixed any problems with the ammo.

Ran through the last 30 rounds with no problems except my being tired and shooting inaccurately.

Nice gun. I've got my eye open for a 9mm 1911.

Ever since I saw a pair of Izzy Colt Comander 9mm 1911s on the net I have wanted at least one.

This thread isn't helping me move on to long guns.
