So there are a lot of "clone" type pistols out there that are based off a lot of different models. However, generally most of them are just the quality of the original, if not a little bet less. The only clones you really see that are factory built to far exceed the original specs are 1911 clones, some of which are a couple thousand dollars. Why is that? Don't you think a Wilson combat or Les Baer Hi Power(just as an example) would be great if built to the same standards as their .45's?

Sure. Most any gun can be awesome if the right smith gets it, and you don't mind ponying up.

But you are referring to after market work... I was just wondering why none of these custom shops that make 1911's in house make any other guns, specifically the hi power which I think would be very popular, and I have seen other Hi Power clones, so I don't see how it would legally be an issue..

The Hi Power is a great gun but the demand is in 1911s. Both of those companies sell as many as they can make so I don't expect them to start cloning other guns any time soon.

I'm surprised also that the clone market for BHP's is as lame as it is. If somebody made a really good copy - the way the real deal was made about 50 years ago - I'd certainly buy one or more, but sadly nobody makes a clone that's even close.
