It literally saved his life. What more can you want from a knife?

I am not seeing the 10% discount part of the story...and this is important to you why? Are you the kind of person who thinks they are owed something? Should Glock send everyone something who uses a Glock to save their lives? Should every car company buy people stuff when an airbag goes off? (you get the idea)

Yes, the optics matter. When a story gets traction, perhaps it is time to CYA but why have a policy to give stuff to people who buy your product...and it works.

    I agree with you a 100%.

However, if they were my client, I would strongly urge them to send him a new knife and then play the hell out it. Not often you get that kind of earned media for the production cost of a knife.

This happened very long ago. I'm surprised that he choose to carry that knife as opposed to the regular issue diver's knife which is very nice.

I'm sorry Mr. Reporter, but that's not a Randall Bowie. It's a #10-3". And the blade doesn't look shattered to me.

As for Randall, they move AD military to the front of the line instead of the usual 4-5 year wait.

I don't see any mention of a 10% discount in the story either.

Randall's are excellent knives and worth every penny. However if the 10% discount is or was true they are not obliged to do so.

Randall, like several other makers, puts those in uniform at the front of the line when ordering a knife. Considering the waiting period for a Randall is about three years right now, that's all ready a big PR point in their favor.

I don't remember seeing a Randall Ad in years. With a 3-5 year backlog I don'y think they need to advertise.

The same driving force behind news headlines that put veteran/police officer in when it has nothing to do with the story.

Veteran denied hotdog at 7-11 because he only had $0.37

Everyone needs to advertise to some extent, especially when it is incredibly low cost, thus my reference to earned media.

I would take a guess that Randall doesn't want to start a trend of replacing every knife that gets broken in service. There are a lot of Randall's out there.

    This, fraking obviously.

They could have gotten hundreds of thousands of dollars worth of free advertising, of the best possible kind, for the cost of a knife.

They REALLY dropped the ball on this one.:faint:

Not half as badly as those who couldn't be bothered to read the story.

You know, like the OP. :faint:

Good job it wasn't a Cold Steel knife. They probably bring out a special range of kevlar sheaths to go with the knife and have re-enactment videos with Lynn "who ate all the cakes?" Thompson playing the Seal.

So, Randall Knives could have gotten hundreds and hundreds of thousands of dollars of free advertisement if they were to replace this SEAL's knife with a free knife, huh?

What about all the other hundreds GIs who own Randalls and somehow got them damaged during the course of duty now wanted to send theirs in for replacement? Where exactly does Randall get the fund to do these replacements so that they can even get more "free" hundreds and hundreds of thousands of dollars advertisements?

They didn't havta do squat, their blades speak for themselves. So the "discount" was polite and not a "platitude".Rabbi is right.

Suppose the blade failed, then what? .'08.
