    I want either a 4 or 4.25" pistol.

I don't want to spend over a G one this first one.

I plan for it to be my primary carry pistol, and I'm going to shoot it A LOT; I want it to last well over 10k.

Leaning towards steel for those reasons, but, must I? Carrying lighter would be a bit nicer, but would it shoot at well as the steel?

The two pistols I'm looking at are the Kimber Pro Carry HD (maybe not, if I don't NEED steel?) and the Para LTC 4.25" SS. I've heard good things and bad things about both from different people I trust. I know it's just brand war BS. I've handled the some Kimbers and really love the way they feel. The safeties have a ver positive action, and snap into position. The backstrap safety on the Para I felt (albeit an LDA) felt mushy and uncertain.

    I know BAC hates Kimbers and 4" (non-traditional) 1911s.

So tell me everything you know, especially you BAC!
    Thanks.

He also hates the word "Loaded". Base springers are fine, custom springers are fine. A base springer with a gunsmith performing the same mods as a loaded comes with is fine, even if that gunsmith works for Springfield. But a suitable 1911 simply cannot be a production Loaded. Because of the word. Just having fun with you bac. You've pretty much said as much other threads. :)

GIs are not steel; shouldn't I be needing a steel framed pistol?

^^ Is that lower receiver steel? I thought most/all CDPs were not. That's the gun that got me started liking 1911s.

Aren't STIs wayy more than the Kimber Pro Carry steel and longer to wait/harder to get? I'd love to have an STI gun.

Okay, tell me about this Taurus thing; I thought a major rule of gun safety was to avoid tauras autos. It's also not a steel gun.

I'm stressing this steel thing a lot, tell me why I shouldn't be.
    Cheers.

Springfield GI's are forged steel, just like all the other Springfield's

As another poster stated, BAC CC's a Kimber, (aluminum framed), CDP Pro 4". Any of the models in the Kimber Pro, steel or alloy framed, would serve you well and would last alot longer than the 10K limit you've expressed.

the Pro CDP II is an alloy frame.

Taurus is crappy because it's cheaply made.
    Taurus is steel.

Yeah the Ranger's looking really good right now.

I wonder if my FFL can get them. That might be hard at a price I want.

bac wants to shed himself of them there hated Kimbers, it'll be a chore, but I'll let 'em sit in my safe.

I'll even verbally abuse them one a week. Call 'em MIM or something else insulting.

I do, however, draw the line at pink carpeting.

    Nicely done Ol'Slabsides!
That's exactly what I was thinking, with the bobtail even. Who is it that did the work? My gunsmith is saying he sends them off and it costs a mere $100(?!?)
