"RAI" Ammo?

4604 Views 11 Replies 10 Participants Last post by  Merkavaboy

Bought some ammo at Twin Pines Victory Mall at Kankaloo. Tindera said that Armscor FMJs are at 18 petot a piece. Failed to notice that the ammo was not Armscor marked.

Any ideas what RAI stands for?

i bought 1 box (50rnds) cal .45 from Armscor MCS with same stamp marks, though the box was the usual Armscor, 6mos ago.
For a minute I thought Research Armament Industries of Rogers, Arkansas, USA
might have gone into 9mm cartridges, (they used to go by "RAP" for Reasearch
Armament Prototypes).

I'm guessing RAI stands for Rock Island Arsenal Ammunition Inc.(????)

h.
Maybe the bullets or casings were imported from Arkansas. Tried to shoot some rounds and fired just fine.

I also fired some Winchester JHP's on the same pistol (HS9 Tactical) and experienced a FTE. Maybe I need to break the pistol in a little bit more.
I heard through the grapevine that armscor started importing their ammo from south africa. They said it is much cheaper to import than to manufacture them. I bought .45acp brass from armscor last gunshow and they are all marked RAI. I think our military and police have been getting their ammo from south africa too.

wow,that's something
Armscor have been using different brands of brass.
As of my personal observation with reloads, RAI is of similar quality with AP. But beware of the cartridge brass that's marked with BM. It is of inferior quality. easily deformed.
WDL (Willie) of Armscor PM'ed me in another forum to relay the information about the RAI ammo. Unfortunately, he tried to log on to this forum since he is a member, but he can't log on. I hope Horge could somehow help WDL with his little problem:

Hello Sir,

Good day to you!

First, my apologies if I bothered you.

I am a member of Glock talk but when I tried logging in again, I can't enter the forum (I do not know why).

Just saw a post over that forum - BOG in re: RIA Ammo.
We do manufacture this headmark. Those are surplus ammunition intended for Thailand's Royal military.

Kindly help us in informing the members of the GT community.

Wow Armscor is becoming a major supplier in our region. That is good!!!
I used to buy 5.56mm / .223 from True Weight that came in Armscor boxes, but were of assorted headstamps, I persuaded the saleslady to give me the same headstamps (I'm a bit of an OC and I arrange my ammo by brand in their boxes:supergrin:). I remember it was AP 07, then as I kept coming back:supergrin: it was AP 05, then later an assortment of AP 03 and 02, then as 5.56 dried up, what was left was .223 with AP, PMC and HSM (rather weak but cycles with no problem) which also came in the familiar Armscor boxes. I also got some RAI .45ACP. Nice to know Armscor is all over the world, my copy of Shotgun News even has their ad.

Wow we supply the Thais' ammo? Don't they have their own arsenal?

BTW go to the Midway USA site and read the praises the Kanos have for Armscor ammo.
RAI = Royal Ammunition of Thailand.

http://royalammunition.com/index.asp

They have some type of association with Aguila of Mexico as both companies ammo boxes are nearly identical.
