    Hello,
I live in Los Angeles and I was driving on the 134 freeway east, a few miles before catching the 210 east. I was on my way from the San Fernando Valley to Arcadia. On the 134, I noticed a sign that said "radar used to enforce the speed limit". I few miles after the sign, I saw a camera on the freeway, it was on top of one of the road signs and seemed about 2 feet in length, with a diameter of maybe 8 inches or so. I was going about 10 miles over the speed limit and worry it might have been some type of camera that uses radar to measure peoples speed. Do the cameras look like the one I described, or am I being paranoid.

That's more typically what a live-feed camera looks like for traffic control centers (you often see their feed on the tv news as well). We have a lot of the speed-ticket-cameras here in the town where I live and none of them look as you describe.

You'll know soon enough though: if you did indeed get a photo ticket, it'll be in your mail box in a couple of days at most.

The speed enforcement systems are a much larger box. USUALLY, there is also additional devices around, such as a flash bulb for the camera. There are also typically at least two cameras....one to photo the driver and front of the car...one to photo the back and license plate.

Here is what the stationary enforcement systems look like in Arizona. Most are similar in design.

I'm surprised that more of those don't get shot out by passing motorists.

discharging a firearm at that is probably a felony.

This happens all the time in the Phoenix area. They also arrested a guy that took an ax to one of them.

A work around is to get a GPS and download the radar/camera locations to them or use a radar detector like the one from Escort that does a similar thing and accepts downloading of the trap locations and will warn you as you approach the trap location.

Or save yourself the money and expend a little more time driving the posted speed limit. Yea I know where is the fun in that.

I watched a guy get out of his car and spray paint a red light camera in Toledo OH about 2 years ago. I thought it was funny.

They do not use cameras in MI YET!

My small city of Lighthouse Point is installing the tag reading cameras as I type this post.

In the mail one day I got a picture of my truck and a ticket for $100.
I sent them a picture of a $100 bill. They sent me a picture of handcuffs. I paid the $100 fine.

We don't have speed cameras yet, but they are talking about allowing them..."For safety." But it's really just a revenue scheme.

The camera you saw was most likely used for looking at traffic.

I don't see any for your area, but if you go to abc7.com -> traffic on the left...go 210/15 area and you'll see a bunch of cameras.

    Or go here: http://www.video.dot.ca.gov/

I have read that in the UK they destroy these with spray foam. There is an access hole in the bottom that is perfect for the nozzle of the spray foam cans. It completely ruins the unit supposedly. I wish more of these would get destroyed to the point where it is not a financially viable for the companies running this scam.

If speeding is that big of a problem in the area, maybe they should employ more police. I have never heard of one of these revenue generators ever stop a drunk driver, or prevent a real crime.
