What, besides talk, do you plan to do with a smartphone? There is your starting point.

As much as I hate to say it I would go with the I-Phone and leverage the Verizon / ATT battle going on to get lower voice and data plans.

Unless you need to do video, there is really no need to get the Iphone 3Gs, stick with the 3G for under $100.

    Droid.

Honestly, the iPhone is great. However, the MOTO Droid does more. Really. And...it is open source...has expandable memory...has a removable battery...5MP camera...AMAZING navagation... And...that's about all that it has over the iPhone.

I find Verizon's network better where I live; so does EVERYONE else.

Opinions are like ___holes, though; ya know?

Good luck. I love my Droid running 2.0.1. Don't go with the HTC and the older Android OS.

(Oh, and FWIW, I read today abou some guy overclocking his Droid to 1ghz! WOW!)

Working at a major Retailer as a manager selling phones, Go with the Droid. AT&T vs Verizon same price per month for the same features. Verizon has better coverage, and of the 20 employees that have either the Droid, or another android device, NONE of them would trade for an iPhone, and 3 of my iPhone employees are switching as soon as their contract is up. The Droid is the clear and obvious choice unless everything you do is tied to a Mac & iTunes.

Oh, and I forgot to mention -- if you're an iPhone user, then you're a slave to iTunes (which sucks balls).

Find out whether Verizon or AT&T has better coverage where you spend the most time.

The PROs of the Droid that USMCSilver listed are, for the most part, non issues for the general public.
As was said above, why these 2 phones?

For Internet browsing, the iPhone is the winner.
For tech tinkering around, it's the Droid.

I don't know where all this Mac slave talk comes from. I only have a PC.

As for being tied to iTunes, if you're really computer savvy, you probably won't like it. If you're a casual user or a techno-idiot, you'll probably like it.

Another neat thing that the Droid has -- a docking station that totally reconfigures the display when docked.

Not a "deal maker" for anyone, but just another neat thing the Droid has.

Granted, there's an "i-EVERYTHING" out there for the iPhone/iPod...

I got mine in the mail today; mine's made by Amzer and has a seperate slot for SPARE BATTERY charging.

Just thought I'd share (a generic picture):

I have the g1 ansd I love the droid os. A couple of my buddies have the droid with the newset os and it is friggin awesome. They have faster video downloads and streaming or whatever. They get 3g when we're down stairs in the offices below the dock...mine only gets edge down there. The guys I know with iphones like them... I'm just partial to droid. I will be getting a droid this summer.

What's wrong with iTunes? I have a ton of songs on iTunes and don't feel a slave to it. Since I have an iPod iTunes works great for me.

Again, the Droid DOES MORE. :whistling:

However, the iPhone is smaller/sleeker. However, the weight feels about the same. (Not sure on raw numbers, I've just held them side by side.)

Uhh...everything has to be done through it.

Why not be able to drag and crop/cut and paste ANYTHING you want?

With the Droid, you can do this.

You run Astra file viewer on the Driod, and it basically looks like Windows Explorer. Lots of folders where you can drop/drag/cut/paste/etc.

Much more user friendly. Just drop and drag from ANYWHERE on a Windows platform, and drop it in the Droid. Done.

Like I say, iTunes works fine for me. I got a lot of songs off Real Player before iTunes came out and later moved them over to iTunes without too much trouble. I've ripped songs and whole albums off CDs to iTunes without a problem and of course downloaded more songs from iTunes. My library is huge and iTunes manages it all very well and syncs it all without a hiccup to my iPod.

But what about PDF files, or PowerPoint? Or Excel. Or...wait for it...WORD?

Drag and drop, bro. You were probably raised on a Windows based OS. IIRC, it's been the same principle since Windows 3.1. Drag and drop and it's there.

Oh...forgot to mention the nice little Widgets that are available on Droid's "desktop/wallpaper". Again, a nice little feature.
