I've been pondering backstops and bullet traps...

Anyone use layers of old carpet or truck mud flaps for this? My thought is that several hung one behind the other with spaces between might do the trick. If the rack was built properly, it would be easy to replace the front ones as they became shot to pieces.

    Comments??? Thanks.

Rubber mud flaps would work Ok for limited shooting of .22LR but I think any extended use would tear them up.

Carpet wouldn't last long, even air rifles tear carpet up pretty fast.

You have a welder or access to one?

I'd use something more like 1/2" steel, its going to be heavy and you can't use it for long range, but you wouldn't lose your lead!
