I got a new computer last weekend and I need to get the files off my old computer. They are mostly pictures and videos. Can I email them to this one? I'm using windows XP on both of the computers. Thanks.

you've got a few options here, but i don't think e-mail is the best (b/c of attachment file size limits).

    1. a cross over cable if both PC's have a network card.
    2. open both cases, and slave the hard drive from the old computer in your new computer. then, just drag and drop the files.
    3. some expesive software like Norton Ghost.
    4. install a cd-writer and burn the data.
    5. copy to a USB flash drive, if you have a big one.

personally, I'd go with number 2, in fact I just did that like an hour ago at work.

I forgot to mention that the new computer is not replacing the old one. They are just in seperate rooms and have a wireless router for internet.

You can just share the folders over your network, and just cut and paste.

    Save your disks, guy.

It's as simple as creating a folder on one machine and naming it Shared, then opening Proiperties for it and MAKING it Shared.

Then drag whatever you want into it, and open Network Places on the other machine. All that remains is to open the Shared folder on the other machine and drag the files and folders to the Desktop.

    Thus endeth Transfer 101.

I agree, save your disks! The folder share will last you alot longer then burning once to a CD/DVD!! It's easier to share a folder than to run some of the new burning software for that matter! :)
