All of a sudden I became an uncle - my sister back in Mother Russia gave birth to a baby girl.

So, a question for all GlockTalk parenting experts: where can I find high quality baby toys? Something different from the usual Chinese garbage poorly stamped from recycled plastic and dipped in lead paint?

look for small local independent toy stores. they usually go to Toy Fair in New York every February and deal with the small, quality driven makers.

Google "Haba" and "Melissa & Doug.". Both high quality wooden baby toys.

I stumbled across some antique toys from the USSR... Here is a real winner - "Chemical Warfare" table game: :wow:

    Bumble Ball.
It held my kids attention and got him scooting sccross the carpet to catch it. If there is a downside the dogs love it too!

Nothing like a little mix of kid spit and dog spit on a toy to make it a favorite for everyone.

I have a 2 year old and a 10 week old...both boys, so I've been looking for quite a while for toys.

I used to be of the opinion that I hate plastic toys with a passion. Quality wooden toys are great...but they can be problematic as well. Because of the weight and the material, they hurt more when dropped on toes, they can splinter when chewed, and scratch furniture.

Plastic toys from quality manufacturers aren't too bad.

    Something like this: [ame="http://www.amazon.com/John-Deere-Scoop-Dump-Truck/dp/B000UZI26E/ref=sr_1_2?ie=UTF8&qid=1344431337&sr=8-2&keywords=john+deere+big+scoop"]John Deere - 21" Big Scoop Dump Truck : Toys & Games : Amazon.com@@AMEPARAM@@http://ecx.images-amazon.com/images/I/518E2935QYL.@@AMEPARAM@@518E2935QYL[/ame]

Is great fun for boys. Problem is, currently it is out of stock on Amazon and only rip-off 3rd parties are selling it.

For an infant, my son loved:

Our 10 week old spends plenty of time on something like this we got from Pottery barn:
