Anyone interested in a proximity alert device? I'm thinking about getting one for my airplane. Think of it as a sort of portable TCAS.

After a near mid-air in the Atlanta Bravo airspace while I was on an IFR Angel Flight mission last week, I've decided to get one for my Skyhawk.

Aviation Consumer rates the ProxAlert R5 an edge better than the SureCheck ($1195 retail) or the Monroy ATD-300 ($795 retail).

The regular reduced retail price for the ProxAlert R5 is $1045. However, they are offering a "group buy" discount. If five people buy, they are $ 935 -- if ten, the price drops to $885

Come on -- Flight Deck members need to take a little of that "fun money" intended for another pistol and invest it in one of these safety devices! I'm game -- and will definitely order -- anybody else?

I'm going to get something. Right now it will likely be the Garmin GTX-33 (not 330) Mode S transponder. The 33 is the same as the 330, except it is installed behind the scenes, and remote controlled through the CNX-80. Should exist in a couple of months.

I hear that the volume of traffic that these things see, and that ATC doesn't call out...and YOU don't see is terrifying.
