I have a 13 month old APB/Rotti mix. My question is how can I train the dog to go to my kid in event of a break in instead of attacking the bad guy or staying with me. I'd just feel better knowing he was behind me and that he was protecting my child. Any suggestions would be appreciated. Thanks!

That is asking a lot of any dog. An awful lot.

You are the alpha, so he will instinctively back you up when weird stuff ensues, which is good (or, if there are serious dominance issues, he may expect YOU to back HIM up-->NOT SO GOOD).

Let me think about it and see what I come up with.
