I've always believed there is, sometimes, a little bit of prophecy in movies. So, here is the daily dose.

Did Klaatu have the answer to our problems? Listen to the speech. This is one of those epic movie speeches like, "... You can't handle the truth!..". Listen to the words about COPS! Sometimes you need to look back to make the way forward, clear. "...The decision, rests with you...."

This was Hollywood's reaction to the atomic and hydrogen bombs that were being tested then. It was a variation of the Old Testament prophets rants about Israel's behavoir.

Sounds a bit like turning over security to AI.

    What could possibly go wrong?

If we’re going to that degree of movie investigation, let’s not forget that crazy Charles Manson predicted the coming race war (Helter Skelter) based on a Beatles Song. But even that crazy A-hole never preached about abolishing the police.

I think Cyberdyne Systems tried to create their own Gort in the form of Skynet... :)

Why is it that every single AI that has EVER been portrayed or created in a science fiction film tries to kill us? Why is there no such thing as a benevolent Artificial Intelligence.

Well it stands to reason. Look who created, Designed, downloaded ourselves into them... garbage in, garbage out.
There are many benevolent AI stories. In a few it works out.

Heck that I Robot was a benevolent AI. It wanted everyone safe. The only way that goal could be reached was total control, removal of violent...

Because to a computer, we are highly illogical beings, and eventually, the only way to save us is to get rid of us, to a mechanized brain.
