This is stupid, but can anyone explain to me what is the appeal of the drink Propel? It's billed as "flavored water", but aren't drinks pretty much flavored water? How is it different than Gatorade, which I believe also makes Propel, other than that it's clear?

It's stupid stuff like this that keeps me up at night.

I actually like Propel and prefer it over Gatorade. I buy the little powder packets that you add to a bottle of water.

Reason is that its not a strong flavor like Gatorade or other sports drinks but contains electrolytes and B vitamins. I find the intense flavor of Gatorade or Powerade objectionable sometimes. Propel or water quench my thirst better.

Gatoraid is a whole bunch of sugar in the water. Propel doesn't add the sugar, it uses Aspartame (which gives me a headache) Both have the other stuff, electrolytes etc in them. Gatoraid is a strong flavor, Propel is not. Try drinking the stuff for a 6 hour bike ride and see if you can even look at Gatoraid after 4 hours.

Personally I like Hammer nutrition products. They don't use sugar or the artificial sweetners for the carbs and the taste is mild to begin with.

Propel is nasty. Arrowhead sparkling water is the way to go.

Pvt. Joe Bowers: What *are* these electrolytes? Do you even know?
Secretary of State: They're... what they use to make Brawndo!
Pvt. Joe Bowers: But *why* do they use them to make Brawndo?
Secretary of Defense: [raises hand after a pause] Because Brawndo's got electrolytes

About the bottled water brands, etc.

Imagine that tap water is a plain knit shirt of decent quality.

Dasani, etc. would be like Izod water.

Propel and etc. would be like Tommy Hilfiger water.

It just depends on how cool you need to be. Some folks are fine with the plain knit shirt. Some folks gotta have the Tommy Hilfiger.

My wife loves Propel and we recently bought a case of it from Sam's and I bought a case of G2 as well. I've had both within the same day and can't taste a difference between the 2 really. Obviously, the flavor is different but they both taste just as strong to me.

Look at the calories. If you're not actively working out you might want to pay attention to that part of it. G2 is still a buttload of sugar to be drinking as a pass the time type drink.

I brew and drink a ton of green tea. Probably 1/2-3/4 of a small pitcher a day. First got a taste for it in China and then realized that there generally isn't a good green tea available for purchase here in the U.S., and started brewing my own. Lightly sweetened with sucralose.
