Has anyone ever had any problems with Jet Ski’s while you’re trying to fish?
I was out fishing the other night and working my way down a shore line and this Jet Ski with 2 kids “I’m guessing about 16 years old” came flying by us at a pretty high rate of speed. I thru my hands up in the air as to say “What the Hell”. I’m guessing they where about 20 yards away. I could of made a cast and hit them.
They turned around and came back around and did the same thing. This time they flipped us the Bird!!
So I ran them down the lake “Beautiful thing about Bass Boats. Not much out there that can out run you!!” They went up to there dock and ran into the house real fast.
So I was sitting out in front of there dock writing down the Numbers off the Jet Ski to turn into the DNR. As I was doing this the Mom came out and asked if I had a problem.
I told her how her son and his buddy where acting and driving the Jet Ski. Running on plan to close to shore and to close to other boats. She went off on me saying the Bass Fishermen are always out on HER lake and are always banging lures off her dock and blah blah blah. If you don’t live on the lake you have no reason to question how someone is acting on there own lake.
I just told her that’s fine and I will let the DNR officer educate Her and the Boy on how to act on a “Public” Lake.

I guess what I’m getting at. I have had a few run-in’s with Jet Ski’s and Water Skiers in the past. It’s always them driving in an unsafe manner. To close to the fishermen. I just don’t understand why they do this when they have a whole lake and they buzz the fishermen so close. I have no problem with them going by but keep your distance.

Does anyone else have any stories to share about this?
I think I handled it the best way I could. If it was up to my partner he would have put a beating on the kid!!

    Idiots are everywhere.

Until they buzz too close one time and catch a couple treble hooks or try to jet ski through some monofilimant line they won't stop.

In my state of Indiana, this behaviour will get you busted, and your machine confiscated, and a healthy fine, to boot.

Here, you need a permit, I believe, to operate these things, and any un-safe practices result in trouble for you.

Many years ago, 25 or so, a guy in a speed-boat harrassed me, while I was anchored, so I tied on a large bobber to my pike line, heavy line at around 20 lbs. , and heaved it out where I knew he would try the same stunt again, and surely he did.

I cut said line, he sputtered to a stop in the middle of this large lake, pulled up his prop to find a gob of melted mono at the prop.

Dead in the water , he was.

    Ime out ;)

Squid jig with 10-o treble hook on a 10 inch trailer and 45 lbs. test line.

Cast into jet-skiers path after warning them.

Real the little crap-wadds in then explain "that's why you should stay away from anglers."

So what was the outcome? What did the DNR do after you reported the incident?

I've had a personal watercraft for 10 years. I give all other boaters several hundred feet of leeway. I'm on a pretty quiet lake that I can usually stay at least 300' away for other watercraft even on "busy" days.

True the Idiots are everywhere. I usually fish points and slews, where it is to rocky or trees and stumps in the water. So no problem with the skiers for me.
