Purchased new 20" iMac with the new Intel processors to transfer a bunch of VHS tape home movies to dvd. I'm using a Pyro AV Link to convert VHS output to digital video input to the iMac.

1st problem: occasionally (20%) when clicking on "Import" to begin computer recording the video signal, iMovie HD will spontaneously shutdown and close, giving me a window to choose "reopen" or quit. Am I doing anything wrong?

2nd problem: during the importing of the video, I get ocassional blank frames, indicated by the blank blue monitor screen on the iMac. Seems to be a tape related problem, as it occurs more on certain tapes, and repeats when I re-import the tape. Would taking to VHS tape to a professional clear up this problem?

BTW, it's a little annoying that iMovie will only let you import clips up to 1hr in length, and automatically starts a 2nd clip after that.
