    Need some advice.
I'm a fairly patient man, came slowly with age. I really hate to
bring up this subject, but during the scare last year I ordered
a few thousand SP and LP cci primers and 4 lb. container of W231
from Powder Valley. It will be a year next month (April) that I
placed the order. I have sent them several messages over the last
year to make sure my order is still current, which they say it is and
they say it will be shipped as supplies become available.
My supplies are getting low and I am thinking of canceling the order
and trying to order from another supplier if I can find one with
    items in stock.
I thought things would loosen up and the suppliers would catch up
with orders, but it has not happened with PV.
Any of you fellow reloaders out there know of a vendor who has
pistol primers and powder in stock. I would be willing to order
another brand primers and powder if need be. Thanks.

I placed an order with PV last April for 20K CCI primers and an 8# jug of Unique. During the interim I was able to get primers from Natches and a couple other places, usually limited to 5K or 10K per order.

About 6 or 8 weeks ago my PV order showed up... at the same price as when the order was placed... $22.50 per K and $96 for the Unique.

Two weeks ago one of the gun shops down in Denver had over 150,000 CCI and Federal primers sitting on the shelf... they've never had more than 6 or 7K on the shelf at any time for well over a year. A little pricy, $32.95 per K but at least they have the.

Seems that primers and powder are loosening up and getting considerably easier to find... who knows how long that will last.

I do believe I'd leave the PV order in place and put in orders at several different on-line outlets... Wolf primers seem to be fairly available.

If another order comes in first, great, cancel PV, or if you can afford it accept the order. Even if you don't need the primers you know you can sell them in a New York second and recoup your cost... plus make some friends at the same time. Good luck.

    Jack

Yeah, I'd say leave it be... you're locked in on the old prices. Took me 10 months to get my PV order, but when it came in, I was yellin' Hallelujah brothers!

I agree.... definitely leave the order in place. Wideners has Wolf primers, which I have had good luck with, if you need something to hold you over. I have an order in with Graf's for 20,000 assorted spp myself. One day I will get a big fat surprise. I would also try to order 10K of this, 10K of that etc... so you have a steady supply as they get different brands from the manufacturer.

    Thanks fellows,

No one else seems to have much along the lines of primers in stock
right now, so I'll take the advice you have given and just leave my
order open. Many thanks for the update on your orders, makes me
feel a little better, perhaps my order will show up in the near future.

I appreciate the other advice and think I will do that today, which
is go ahead and place another order for the future. My PV order
should last me at least a year when I finally get it, so another order
if it comes 12 to 18 months down the road will keep me in good shape.
I don't need a closet full of primers and powder, but this drought
has taught me a lesson and I'll not be caught without a decent
supply on hand from now on. Many thanks.[IMG]

Way to be. With the hundreds of "Wal Mart is out of ammo!!!111" and "Stop ammo hoarding!!!111" threads that have been posted over the last year, there has never been a shortage at my house.

    Huh...

I've placed AND received TWO order for CCI primers from PV last year. Now... my second order was for SP MAGNUM primers, but they shoot just fine in my 9mm.

I think CCI is producing more MAGNUM primers, as they are usuable as long as you maybe back off your load a hair and work your way back up.

I think it depends on what you order too... if it's a mixed batch of stuff, I don't think they'll ship until it can be totally filled.

IT certainly does. If yo uare waitng for Win primers, expect a long wait. CCI seems to be the best bet next to wolf. Be patient, keep the order in place & supplement where you can. It doesn't go bad when stored, so the worst that happens is you'll have enough to not have to worry about ordering again for awhile. I placed an order lst month for 10K CCISP from Graf's. I figure at least a 6m wait. I don't need them, but will be glad to have them when they come.

Leave the order in place and get some primers locally to hold you over. You're not going to beat PV prices, that's for sure. CCI primers are readily available now. 231, not so much.

Agreed, I placed 2 seperate orders in January for 10K Federal and 10K CCI for the reason zombi steve stated. I called Graf's yesterday to ask what the wait time estimate is and they told me it will most likely be November or December before I get either order.

I have plenty right now and might order some more Wolfies to be safe.

    I guess I'm a hoarder :whistling:

That makes no sence. I have recieved 20K CCI SP in that time and I thought they had LP in stock as well. 231 is not hard to come by at all. Maybe try HP38 if they have it. I would call and talk with them about how to modify the order so it can ship.

If they'll leave you in line, that's the best way.. just ship any part of the order as possible.

I don't look @ 10K of each primer size hoarding, more like keeping a reliable stock.
Since the shortage of 90-91, I have kept 5K min of each size in stock. When I open the first box of 5K, I order another 5K, but now days, I am ordering in 10K quanitities so I don't have to keep looking for them. I will NOT pay rape prices of $40-$50/K, that is BS gouging. Consider yourself preparing not hoarding.

I'm in Ga, and find all my components locally. There where shortages here and there; but always found what I needed.

Where in Ga are you? A trip in state may take care of your needs.

Also, the DEFAULT "setup" is that they will wait until EVERYTHING is in stock (at the same time) before they will ship it.

You can tell them, "ship what's in stock when you have it", and they'll do it. If you ordered a powder that they don't have alot, your primers could have come in and gone to someone else as they didn't have the primers.

I JUST got off the phone with them, and they confirmed that they will hold the order until everything is in-house before they ship anything. It *will* make you pay two hazmat fees (one for the powder, one for the primers), but I buy the 8lb powder, so that's not bad. I wouldn't buy 1lb of powder separately at that deal.

So they are waiting till all the primer types and powder are all in stock at the same time. If 231 comes in but one part of of his order is not in they sell the 231 to someone else. So basicallly, complicated orders are going to have a real hard time getting filled.

A better way to go is order up 10K primers of choice. They will contact you to see if you still want them. At that time, you can add powder that is in stock & not get the dbl HM fee.

    Good news.
Looks like the Karma generated from the good advice I received
here on the forum worked. After 11 months, I
just got a message from PV this morning with an invoice for my whole
order of CCI small and large primers and 4 lbs. of W231.
Must be ready to ship or on the way already. I'm back in business.
Thanks all for the replies and good advice.

My last order was for 20K primers and then 16 lbs of powder. In the future I am going to order 40K or more and just sell the extra to friends.
