Anyone else notice the mainstream media repeating the story that the NCAA President is considering the Death Penalty for PSU Football for a "serious lack of institutional control"?

I said it another thread. The football progam deserves the Death Penalty. SMU was destroyed for much less agregious violations.

I don't think the student athletes should be punished, but I think the entire school deserves the death penalty because the Athletic Director, Vice President and President of the university all knew... It goes right to the top so the entire system needs to be squashed.

I hate saying this, I am a BigTen(12) Alumnus and had respect for JoePa for years... But now I'm sick to my stomach and they deserve total devastation of their athletic (hence revenue generating) programs.

On that note, I guess they can keep all the women's sports and tennis.

I hate it for the student athletes, but they are sadly a casualty of the school's blatant disregard for decency.

Sometimes, the best use of a thing is to make an example out of it.

    Kill it.

Totally stupid idea; I've always been a little creeped out by the "Happy Valley" thing but killing the program for a year or two - which as SMU will tell you - ruins the program for 20 years is not a sensible notion.

I don't disagree about the DP for the program, but I think all the talk is silly. The NCAA is not going to do that.

Agreed except that I believe PSU needs a permanent NCAA ban for all sports not just football.

Re: OP. Burn it. The whole program and everything to do with it. But it to the ground. Years from now, when it has rebuilt, people will look and remember.

I haven't had the heart to read the Freeh report in detail, but as far as I can tell, it's so far beyond 'lack of institutional control', and well on the way to 'intentional institutional conspiracy'.

It's a damn shame for the many, many people harmed by a shutdown who had no involvement or part of the situation.

But... the stakes need to be made unmistakably clear to NCAA programs across the board - You'll be damn grateful for the opportunity to take whatever hit in reputation or sanctions your program might take, when the price for concealing it is the death penalty for your program.

Both the program and the people involved in the cover up deserve the death penalty. Penn State should never be able to field a football team ever again.

That's not the point: nobody involved in the cover up works for the university anymore. 5 years and then let the replacements work hard to restore the reputation and program to former levels... Which would probably take 20 years or more.

When it comes down to it, what the heck do any of the NCAA sports have to do with college?

    Go Bama!

it also does not help the fact the word association is PENN ST as in Penitentary , pops up whenever you think of Penn st , or the long time nickname Happy valley .
