Every time I see that pic of the supposed 3D pistol, I see a hand grenade, not a potential firearm.

He should consult with his advisors before posting rubbish. Anyone without the proper Type 7 FFL selling unserialized and completed 3D printed guns is already committing a crime under current laws on the books.

I hate how I keep hearing how they’ll be undetectable through metal detectors since they’re plastic or whatever the 3D material is.

    There’s already laws against that.

And what good is getting a plastic gun through a metal detector when you still have to worry about all the brass, copper, and/or lead you need to load it with?

Eat your heart out, Glock 7. Now we can download assault rifles.

So, basically, they are printing the lower receiver of the AR-15. That's not a lot different than buying an 80% lower and doing a few minutes of machine work.

For a .357 Mag pistol project, there is a steel chamber and barrel liner inside the printed plastic barrel:

Interesting stuff but hardly worth losing sleep over. The people who can actually get these to work are probably not the kind of people who are prohibited persons.

In any event, there are an estimated 300 million guns in the US, what's another million? It's not like very many rifles and shotguns were ever registered and handguns have only been registered since 1968.

I never understand how plastic would stand the pressures of any centerfire ammunition. To me, you need metal. Good metal. Some claim you can use a 3-D metal printer. I can't imagine ever "printing" a complete plastic gun, loading a .40 or 9mm cartridge and pulling the trigger.

To me, this is all moot. Today, online, you can purchase a Glock barrel from Lone Wolf and others, without having to go through an FFL dealer. You can do this for any part of a gun except the receiver (or lower, for rifles). All you need is the 3-D file for a Glock receiver and a 3-D printer and you have yourself a gun, without going through any dealer.

Seems like a whole lot of trouble when one can pick up a cheap pistol just about anywhere.

Didn’t scotus rule that the plans are legal to distribute? 1A and all.

It’s already illegal to sell or give away unserialized firearms. They would need to change the laws around that not necessarily the 3D BS. But then people who own metal pipes and nails and shotgun shells would all be in jail.

Criminals and ex-cons never have a problem getting a gun. There is no law that is going to stop them (kinda why they're called criminals in the first place).

No criminal is going to print a gun when they can get a better one at the local crack house easier and cheaper.

Just more fear mongering by the Left. Of course, they probably are truly terrified by this, just like they're afraid that if too many people stand on one side of an island it might tip over. The existence of pointy sticks probably cause them PTSD.

The adults in the room may carry on as usual.

You can also buy a "Polymer 80" or similar 80% frame, an hour with a file and drill, order a complete slide/bbl and a frame parts kit and you have a complete, "ghost-glock" with ZERO 3D printed parts. Ends up being way more expensive than just buying a used Glock, but whatever.
