Anyone have opinions on whether to load 8 or 9 rounds in a 10 rnd mag to "preserve" its life, longer than it would have lasted being under the constant pressure of a full load. I'm talking about it being in your home and having it sit around for days, weeks

It wont make a difference regarding spring life. For my ccw I do load only 9 in a 10 rnd mag for reliability and to insure reliable mag changes in a stressful situation. For IPSC matches I load all 10 rounds and dont typically have issues but there have been times where I fumble a bit to get a mag fully seated when they are topped off and there is a round chambered.

I leave my carry mags loaded to capacity (I do not use any + bases / floor plates).

Occasionally I empty the mags and reload them - every couple months if I haven't changed carry guns.

A spring loses MOST of it's tension through cyclic action. Leave it full or empty, it really does not matter.
I leave my range mags empty, I believe it relieves the tension on the feed lips and baseplate.

Exactly what good is an empty magazine? Preserve? They're a cheap component to a tool. Load 'em and leave 'em. Shoot more, worry less.

I preserve my MAGS in pure GLOCKINITE-keeps them clean and fresh
    Don't use SIGINITE-promotes rust

OK-now that I'm done being silly you should too:whistling:

Don't understand why you would not load to capacity. That's what they are made for. That's why they have the correct springs in them. A SD gun even more so. You may need every round.

Based my experience and the recommendations of multiple trainers whom I respect, I download all my glock mags one round. For me, it makes reloading on a full chamber at speed more positive and reliable.

    YMMV greatly

Come on guys $30 is a bad price for a mag just load em, and if a mag fails your requirements just get another.

Do you go out every night and put your car up on jack stands to "preserve" the life of your car's springs?? Springs only wear when they are CYCLED!
