Well, the guy who brought us "The Hand Of God" play, is now in the hands of God.

Yes, I remember that. It won him a championship, but it left a stain on his reputation.

Alcohol and cocaine in mass amounts is not good. He may have been a good football (soccer) player but he was a huge fan of Socialist/communist Castro, Che and Chavez. He spent time in Cuba detoxing. He has a tattoo of Che on his arm and one of Castro on his calf. I wonder how he would have felt about Castro or Chavez taking all of his possessions and businesses.

He was a passionate player but a alcoholic, druggie adulterer in real life.

I despise commies.

I had no idea who the guy was until a couple of years ago. I was in a club in Mexico and they played a video, the entire place went crazy and sang along. There were people from all over the place including South America. The song was wrote about him by a musician. I was surprised that even a younger generation would know him and the song.

Diego singing the song himself -

He was possibly the most popular athlete in Latin America ever.

For close followers of soccer, he will always be known as a cheater.
His skills are amazing but he doesn't hold a candle to Pele.

That would be Ayrton Senna. His funeral still stands as the largest human gathering in history. HH
Not even close in popularity to Maradona.

Never heard of him. I don't care for or follow soccer. That's probably why.
