    The good:
3 yr contract at silly money working 3 mos on and one off with lots of trips to London, Paris, NYC and Dallas during the on times. I'd staff an office, get it rolling and get out. I know this "sector" as well as anyone alive. My technical guy has already agreed to a deal much longer than mine that's a good thing.

Reconnecting with a ME oil type who is a good guy to know and a guy who one will only disappoint once. If I decline he will not take my calls in the future.

Ancillary - one of my best friends, totally different infustry, just accepted a job not 1,000 feet from the office I would labor in.

Diver, shopper, cleaning, housing etch are bundled so to speak.

    The bad:
Son will be in med school, daughter will be in college playing her sport. My mom is old and sick and my wife and I have hit a cool spell. A couple years away might end our marriage - probably not but maybe.

Potential boss has all of the vices you might expect.

There will be lawsuits if I do this. I have paid for legal opinion indicating I'd win but still.

I'm going to do it assuming nothing lurks in the weeds. What's the take on Abu Dhabi? I get the no porn, booze restrictions and monitored internet - anything else?

GO. By all means. I think it is a fantastic opportunity. Either Abu Dhabi or Dubai, I'd say yes in a heartbeat.

Also, I can tell you one thing. I work for a consulting firm where everyone travels 80-100%. Nobody is divorced. Absence can be very good for a marriage. :)

    PS. Visit Caracal while there.

PPS. Prepare for an onslaught of posts from every idiot who has never left their home county telling you how terrible your life will be in a muslim country.

    Interesting opportunity.

The being away from the chitlins would be tough, but not impossible to handle. A cooling of an already cooled marriage doesn't sound like a recipe for recovery. That's the hard part to factor, not being in your shoes and knowing the details. Overall, it seems like a grand opportunity.....the marriage issue would be MY looming concern. If you think it would survive...then I guess it is a no brainer.

I'll send you a pm later.

Vaguely, it's quant. finance/International Fisher Effect/theoretical BTU per volume vs. price vs. ship times LOL!

It's got to do with BTU value out of the ground vs. projected final sales price down the line.

There is porn and booze. When you get there you will get the hookup. Allah can't see inside the villas.

I'd say that you should go and then find yourself a Filipina sleeping dictionary over there, if ya know what I mean.

    Go.

Managed the right way, this kind of posting can be a means to accumulate some real wealth, if you leverage all the opportunites, various aspects of your comp, tax advantages, etc.

Negotiate for enough business class round trips home for furlough (if that's not part of the package already).

Life is not a dress rehearsal; go for it then post some pictures of the area.

I like the raw unedited real world stories.

Lots of Filipino women work in the Middle-East. They tend to get abused by the Arabs, so I figured the OP could treat one like a human being and in return she'd teach him Tagalog, hence the "sleeping dictionary" moniker.

I've got a question: Why do you think they're paying you so much money? Is it, sort 'a like, combat pay? If I were in your position, I'd divorce my, 'lukewarm' wife; forget about the kids in school; (They won't be thinking too much about you, right now, anyway.) and be sure to convert to Al-Islam before leaving. While I was in-country I'd appear to be a very good Muslim, too.

(The other guy doesn't know which god you're praying to while you're down there on the rug; AND, you can always cash out and convert back after you return home.)

As for your invalid mother? You'll be better able to afford her illness if you're well-funded; and, besides, you aren't going to be able to do that much for her if you stay at home, anyway.

While I'm a great believer in being loyal to the people who are loyal to you, never forget that, 'Sentiment costs money.' Quite frankly, from your comments, I don't see a lot of sentiment in your life, right now. My recommendation? Go ahead and do something different and interesting with yourself.

It sounds like this might be the perfect time for a change in your life. Your lawyer can take care of your other PRESUMED work obligations. (Already been there, and done that. Better than 90% of the time your current employer will be forced to completely cut you loose - It ain't no big deal.)

Good luck, and remember to be careful with that, 'other culture'. You don't want what happened to a nice guy like Nick Berg to happen to you. ;)
