I bought MAGPUL magazines in the past for my AR-15. They were plastic but always seemed to be very high quality. I opened up these Glock 17 magazines and I immediately felt like they seemed cheaper quality. The plastic seemed softer and was kind of like scratched up from the factory.

I didn't really think about it too much until I noticed PMAG 15 (15 Round 9x19), just after I opened it. Well at first I thought CRAP, I bought the wrong magazines. I looked at my order, everything seemed in order. Then I noticed the magazine was in fact a 17 round magazine. The model number and bar code on the back matched the 17 round MAGPUL.

Why does the front not match the product. I suspect these may be counterfeit.

Any of you guys have similar experiences?

    I'd call Magpul.

Nobody is going to counterfeit PMag Glock magazines. Magpul's vendor just used the wrong bags when they printed up the info on the back.

I agree. Actually, I'd probably call MidwayUSA and Magpul to let them both know about the problem, and I'd offer to send photos if they are interested.

EDIT: To change the description of the problem.

Items are as-ordered, but front of bag says something else is inside. Annoying, but at least with this type of error, no one should get the wrong product from MidwayUSA, so not a big deal. The only time it might become a factor is if a retail shop buys these mags and displays them for sale (hung-on-a-peg type display). THEN the packaging error can cause problems, as people will be making purchase decisions based on the faulty front-of-package description.

(Former QC/QA guy here, who used to do endless sampling to detect and correct product and packaging errors of this type)

They don't look counterfeit, but give them a call to confirm.

Close, but I think the back is correct, where the description on the front is wrong. Probably still just a variation on a printing error, though.

At least in this case, the SKU/barcode agrees with the product, it's just the description on the front that's wrong. If a person needed G17 mags and ordered G17 mags, they get G17 mags, but the bag says G19 on the front.

When I lived in China, you could find counterfeit eggs. Yes, eggs. Eggs that crack and cook like an egg. You'd think a fake egg would cost more to engineer and make.

Thanks good to know. I'm regretting my purchase a bit. These are awfully cheap feeling to me and the rounds don't seem to feed very smooth.

My MAGPUL AR-15 30 round mags on the other hand have been fantastic...

What kind of ammo are you using in the Glock mags? I've heard of some problems with binding in certain aftermarket-mag/ammo combinations.

This was cheap Russian. I will be switching back to Perfecta and try it out. At some point in the future I will be handloading and having clean and higher quality brass.

Yeah, that might the "magic" combo that creates problems.

Here's some links to posts from a gunblogger that I trust (a former GT Moderator), who wrote of similar problems that came up in some Glock endurance testing:

I have several of the 17 and 15 round mags, nary a problem through my 17, 19 and 26.

I won't carry em but they do fine for range work.

Jeebus, one (1) instance of counterfeit mags in the news, and everyone gets the wiggies. '

Next thing someone will claim they received suspected counterfeit RSA's directly from Smyrna...

That's one of the problems with counterfeiting; it has a negative effect on consumer confidence. After a company has something counterfeited, every time they make even a minor change to their packaging, some people will think it's another round of product copy problems.
