Weirdness in the microwave tonight. Pulled out a bag of popcorn and threw it in. Everything went fine for a minute or so, then the entire bag was started arcing and sparking!

I immediately stopped it with no issues (altho it made me glad for the fire extinguisher I have mounted in the kitchen!)

My assumption is that there is metal in the bag somewhere, but I would have thought it would start sparking immediately if that were the case.

Cooked up another bag just fiiine though...I wonder if the microwave is on its last leg and dangerous, or if I just got some weirdness in the popcorn. Might have to take the bag apart and see whats up.

    Strange days....lol.

Our microwave recently put on a pyrotechnic display like that. Wife was doing her oatmeal in a MW safe cup at the time. She shut it down and pulled the plug. I hauled it to the Dumpster and bought a new one. Not taking any chances with that stuff.

    Weird popcorn?
    Only in your world, man.

Or into a parallel, alternate universe where popcorn has weirdness attributes.

"There is a fifth dimension beyond that which is known to man. It is a dimension as vast as space and as timeless as infinity. It is the middle ground between light and shadow, between science and superstition, and it lies between the pit of man's fears and the summit of his knowledge. This is the dimension of imagination. It is an area which we call the Ender Zone. "

I had a similar thing happen with corn on the cob. I had cut the corn off the cob and popped it in the microwave on a safe plate. There was an electrical noise and FLAMES. I shut it off and put something else in and it worked fine. Put the corn back in and the same thing happened. Have no idea what caused it and hasn't happened since.

Gremlins in microwaves are pretty cool also.

My new (in the last 2 years) microwave has done with with popcorn as well. I just started using a little bit of olive oil in a pot and popping on the stovetop. Tastes MUCH better, imo.
