DETROIT — Pontiac, whose muscle cars drag-raced down boulevards, parked at drive-ins and roared across movie screens, is going out of business on Sunday.
The 84-year-old brand, moribund since General Motors decided to kill it last year as it collapsed into bankruptcy, had been in decline for years. It was undone by a combination of poor corporate strategy and changing driver tastes. On Oct. 31, GM's agreements with Pontiac dealers expire.

Never owned one but raced lots of goats....GTO's back in the late 60's
Pontiac made some sweet lookers...big and shiny...but no more

    RIP Pontiac

Bummer. I never owned a Pontiac, but I always liked the looks of them. The Firebirds and Trans Ams, were very cool.

I currently own a Trans Am so its pretty disappointing. I thought the G8s were some pretty good looking cars, to bad they showed up when nothing could keep Pontiac from getting axed.

They had started to make some great product again but it was too little too late.

A good condition, low mileage G8 GXP is the only thing that could get me out of my GTO right now. Unfortunately they are impossible to find.

My pal had a 1966 Ventura (big car) with a 421 Tri-Power. Amazing, righteous car.

Sold it for $250 during the first gas shortage in 1974.

How many have we lost in the past 10 years? Plymouth, Olds, Saturn ,Pontiac, and at the end of the year, Mercury. Sad.

a little late... GM decided to kill pontiac a while back... The dealer I used to work at took the pontiac sign off the building about a year ago. Its okay though, the more popular models are being redone as chevrolets now. The new caprice concept is nothing more than a G8.

And GM kept Buick over Pontiac, that makes no sense to me whatsoever.

Pontiacs were a large part of my life. My Dad owned Pontiacs from the fifties into the seventies. I still have an 05 GTO.

Bought a new '69 GTO back when I came back from my second Vietnam carrier cruise. Thought I'd be cruising the freeways out in SoCal and the Navy decided to stick me in Millington TN, just north of Memphis, for the next four years. 25mph speed limits and a lot of narrow two-lane roads and I finally gave it up. Sure did miss it.

Owned two Trans Ams over the years, but they just didn't make as good of product as the Germans and Japanese.
