    Which way do you spell it when you are trying to determine if someone likes one choice over others? Like in an election or something.

    BTW I know which way is the correct spelling.....

    Put it this way, if Santa is going to a pole, he's probably going home. If Santa is going to a poll, he's probably going to vote.

    Clearly it depends on what is the topic of the choice. Usually as in politics for instance poll is correct; however if the choice is regarding certain kinds of entertainment or any thread with @G30SF/F-250 then pole is the word for which you are looking. And even if it is not the word you are looking for, inevitably it will still be used.

    Why does it matter how I or anyone else spells it. There's only one spelling that fits that definition. Consensus doesn't equal correct.
