My partners neice is a senior in high school. For one of her classes she was assigned a project where she was to "shadow" a career. She completed this project by interviewing and following my partner for several days.

Long story short, her teacher failed her. He wrote on the top of her paper that she was to follow a "career" and not a "job".

I think my partner and I will be paying a visit to her high school on Monday to speak with the principal (and hopefully this teacher) about this.

By the way if you type "define: career" in google, the first 4 definitions you find all refrance law, public service, or the military.

Wonder what experience this schmuck had to make a judgement call like that?

Damn, guess I had better go to JCPenny's, buy a suit and brush up my resume. I'm gonna get a career.

Those who can't do, teach. Couldn't resist.

She should definitely challenge the fail which is obviously due to the ignorant teacher's Bias.

    The dictionary defines career as.

    1. long-term or lifelong job: a job or occupation regarded as a long-term or lifelong activity
    2. professional progress: somebody's progress in a chosen profession or during that person's working life
    3. general progress: the general path or progress taken by somebody or something

Maybe we can all get a group rate on new suits if we go in together. Can't wait to hear the teacher's logic on this one.

Teaching should not be a career.

Teaching should be done by people who have already obtained real experience in real careers.

They wouldn't need tenure and unions if they were worthwhile on their own merits.

After being an SRO in a high school for 2 years this does not surprise me in the least. That same ****** will be the first one to call the police when a kid "acts up" in class and wants you to play boogeyman.

The teacher obviously has an agenda. I will be more interested to hear how receptive the priniple is, or if he just yes's you partner to try to placate him.

Get the name and address of the teacher/school and we can flood her office with letters from us that are veterans or retired and let her explain why our career is just a job and hers is such a glorious endeavor.

I guess the daughter could write a fictitious account of following a hooker around all day. Maybe that is acceptable.

If you were Bi-Lingual (NOT Italian French German Japanese Russian Armenian, etc)
California State University would railroad you through a 4-year program (as oppossed to 6) with total support whether you could speak appreciable English.
There even was an attempt to make "Ebonics" a legit language!
Forget homework, term papers, and "racist" tests.
A minor in Ethnic Studies was no different than Child Development.
If you "worked" in a needy district, your student loans would be forgiven.

And... if you're friend and his daughter doesn't mind, post the paper, along with teach's info.

    Wow. Just wow.

The most disappointing part is that teacher, police officers, and firefighters are often lumped together in the category of overworked, underpaid, public servants who make a career doing what they love, not what brings in a fat paycheck. I've always admired teachers for doing what they do, and consider them collegues in a lot of ways.

Teaching is just as much a career as law enforcement, and I suspect the burn-out and turnover rates are comparable; the crappy work environment and poor pay definetely are.

There are some "cops" who have more of a degree then most teachers.

I know personally at least 2 officers that have law degrees and are qualified to practice. Also the majority of officers I know have years of colleges most with bachelor's degrees, military and real life training.

This teacher has alot of nerve!

I love it when most think I am a stupid constable until they realize I make almost 200k a year arresting people.

    Go ahead put me down!

I plan on getting to the bottom of this for you guys, thats why I posted. I want to make sure of the facts first, so this weekend my partner will be speaking with his neices directly and asking to see the results that are reportedly written on her paper. Right now it's just hearsay from his sister.

If it does check out, we will be paying the principle a visit, and I'll post the school's contact info. Let me investigate first though. Don't want to go and make a total *** of myself just yet (at least in regards to this matter).
