TUCSON (KGUN-TV) - An officer-involved shooting and a related nine-car wreck caused traffic problems on Ajo Way between 6th and 12th Friday afternoon into Friday evening.

Sgt. Kimberly Bay with Tucson Police says it started with a traffic stop at 11:45 a.m. near the Walgreen's at 12th and Ajo. Bay says during the stop, officers learned the driver was part of an ongoing felony investigation.

The suspect, 30-year-old Donald Terry, was potentially involved in multiple violent crimes, said Bay.

Terry, who was in the car by himself, then reversed and rammed into at least three other cars in the Walgreen's parking lot.

Bay says officers saw a threat to public safety and three officers fired their weapons at the suspect vehicle attempting to stop the driver.

Terry drove back onto Ajo east bound were he struck at least one vehicle waiting at the stop light.

Officers followed the suspect to 6th and Ajo where another collision occurred. A total of nine vehicles were involved in that second collision at Ajo and 6th, said Bay. At least one patrol car was also involved.

Terry was then taken into custody with serious injuries. Police did not confirm whether his injuries were from the shooting or from the accident.

Four people from the accidents were also taken to the hospital with non-life threatening injuries.

No officers were injured.

Per standard procedure the three officers who discharged their weapons are on administrative leave. Sgt. Brian King is a 13-year veteran and Officer Michael Cuestas is a 3-year veteran. The third officer is being withheld due to currently serving in an undercover capacity.

Terry was released from the hospital on Sunday. He was booked into Pima County Jail for two outstanding warrants and charged with four counts of Aggravated Assault, Misconduct Involving Weapons, Possession of Narcotic Drugs for Sale, Possession of Dangerous Drugs for Sale and Unlawful Flight from Law Enforcement Officer.
