Ya, g36 is def not a pocket pistol. Maybe look into the lc9 for a pocketable pistol still in a decent caliber, or a j frame, possibly a pps....otherwise you will prob have to drop caliber size for a really pocketable gun.

what will you be using it for?

Yeah, it's just slightly smaller than a G30. I would go for a single stack 9mm if I wanted a pocket pistol.
I have a G26, slightly large for my right front pocket. So I ignored the rumor mill and went with the recommendation of my LGS and got a Taurus PT709 Slim in a DeSantis Nemisis holster. The trigger is more Glock like than Glock. 750 rounds +/- w/o a hiccup. Double strike, no mag. safety, thumb safety which I like. Very nice and pocketable. Gold Dot Short Barrel+P is the carry load. It felt "funny" on WWB 115gr. but the 147 WWB was perfect. Everything else unremarkable. Best.

It depends on what kind of pockets and what you are willing to carry.
I have a 36 that fits in the front pocket of my work jeans that I get from Duluth Trading (on line).
What we used to refer to as a "change" pocket in a set of Levis on these work jeans is big enough and deep enough to carry the 36.
Of course you have to cover it with a shirt of some kind.
So yes it can be a pocket pistol if you are willing to carry it and make it work for you.
But then again I normally carry a G21 and not many people like to conceal that big a gun.
