I need some advice. I am beginning to shoot in competitions (real, not arcade)
and am thinking of doing this :http://pocketcarrycomp.com/default.aspx.
The rules say you can use a semi-auto up to 3.65 inches, barrel length. What do you guys recommend I get for this? Any recommendations would be appreciated. Thanks!!

Depends on the rules, how bad you want to win, real world carry.

    To win...probably a S&W M&P 9c or SR9c.

Real world..Sig 238. LCP, LCR or EMP.

I am wondering about the 3" barrel length v.s. The allowed 3.65. Would the extra 1/2 inch sight radius be a significant disadvantage? Remember I'm starting off with a clean slate.

Me neither. But a got a 6'9 400 lb buddy that could. I ain't sheeet'in when I say he has been mistaken for Bigfoot before.

He is a professional duck/goose hunting guide. One day he was out hunting and some other hunters saw him and called DNR (and everybody else that would answer a cell phone) and reported seeing Bigfoot or a gorilla.. (NO JOKE)

I bet he could pocket carry a Glock 17.

    significant? no...
I'd wait a little bit before you get all decked out for this sport. They obviously are just getting started and Im sure a few clubs will pick it up, but it will take quite a bit if ever for it to take off

Ah, I see. So just a limit on barrel length not carry style.

The EMP is in the Discreet category. Barrel length up to 3.65" and IWB/OWB possible. It doesn't meet the pocket carry category because the height is 5", the rules state a height no more than 4.6".

The P238 IS in the pocket carry category, however.

Ok but when I think "Pocket carry" I think, LCP, P3AT, PM9, J frames, LCR, PF9 and single stack autos. Not an Officer size 1911 platform. Not saying it is impossible but maybe, maybe 1 out of 500 CCW permit holders can pocket carry an EMP and get away with it. Chances are they are of large stature.

You're still arguing the pocket carry and I don't understand why...

The EMP is NOT in that category, so it doesn't matter!
