Peel, cut in half, and remove the seeds from 2 pears.

Put 1/2 inch of red wine in a sauce pan.

    Add one pinch of oregano.

Add 1 teaspoon of sugar stir.

Medium heat place the pears cut side down, cover and simmer.

Turn the pears over from time to time to color both sides.

When pears are cooked-softened remove from pan.

Turn up the heat and reduce the liquid to a syrup like consistency.

    Serve over pears.

Top with a dollop of sour cream if you wish.

This is a simple up-scale dish.

Note if the pears are not ripe it will still work.

also try adding cinnamon and/or tarragon to the poaching liquid.
