    Hey GT,

So about three weeks ago I bought my first Glock a G19. Now, of course I already want another. In my sights I have a NIB OD Glock 38 (45 GAP of course) for about $430 after all fees and shipping.
I've been researching the 45 GAP round and think it is something I would be comfortable trusting my life with it and having fun at the range too. I really like the fact that the frame is pretty much identical to my G19, because it fits my hand so well.
Anyway, I don't really need another gun, but the price is right and I have been hankering for an OD Glock in general. So, if anyone can bring up some points that might talk me out of this purchase please do so! Thanks!

But can you find ammo for it?

It's funny, but I've seen more 45GAP than a lot of other ammo when I'm in the stores or range.

Ammo availability seems to be a potential downside. Haven't checked my local places, but I do see some available online for decent prices.

+1. It isn't as cheap as 9x19 or even .40, but it is there.

I just bought a G37 a few weeks back based on the low cost of the pistol AND the great reports on the cartridge. Now to find some brass so that I can start reloading for it...

It's a great deal and you should definitely purchase as many firearms as you would like to own. 1 is simply not enough.

The thing to consider is the cost of ammo. Although the .45 GAP is sufficient for self defense it is EXTREMELY pricey ammunition not to mention, harder to find then say 9mm or .40 S&W.

Despite old some school belief the 9mm has advanced immensely and the .40 is undeniably the #1 chosen ammo in Law Enforcement for good reason.

A Glock 23/22/17 may cost you more up front but a single range trip will balance the short term budget.

There IS a reason the .45 GAP guns are so inexpensive.

    That's my $.02.

+1 on this. Ammo is easy to find and low cost and you can knock down about and bg with it. Also same frame as the g19 makes it easy to learn to shoot for you and easy to change to for a carry gun if needed.

About the only thing that keeps me from going with the .45GAP...IS the price of ammo!!!
If I did a lot of reloading, I could cut the cost some; but, tooling up and buying the components (I hear primers can be scarce...) would set me back more than I'd "recoup" in shooting costs.....
    Still...that price is GOOD....and, after all....it IS a GLOCK!!!
My opinion? Buy it, and buy ammo where and when you can.....!

Because nobody buys it since its not a very popular cartridge. Most of what you see in the GAP, is probably surplus.

When ammo production gets back to normal, I don't think the GAP is going to be a priority for ammo manufacturers...

If you wanna buy a GAP, by all means, buy it.

Get the G38. Mine is my favorite Glock. I shoot my G35 most because I compete with it, but I carry the 38. Ammo is readily avalible on-line and no more expensive than ACP. I reload for mine for practice. You won't fine much fired brass available yet, but the 2000 rounds of Starline I bought in 2004 plus a few hundred once-fired from a friend have lasted quite well.

Check my sig....i was in the same boat. I started with 19's, then ordered the 38, and still waiting for it. Got the 23 the next week and their shipment of 23's came in the next week. i doubt you would regret it. I know i don't yet, and I haven't even shot it. part of building a collection is getting them as you can, and the 38 is a great second one. Good luck.

I had a G37. It was a nice gun. It would keep a nice group. Then I sold it. The Gun Shops around me knew that 45 GAP ammo around here is hard to find so, they charge what ever they want for their ammo. I don’t want to be in the situation where if I want it cheap I am always forced to buy it on the internet. When I want ammo, I want to be able to get it at Walmart if I need to.

Since I have replaced it with a G32, I have been to Walmarts to pick up .357 Sig ammo and the Walmarts by me always have it. The guy behind the counter did say he thinks I am the only guy buying it but that means more ammo for me.

Georgia Arms sells 185gr .45 GAP for $170/500 and there isn't the long wait for it like there is 9mm ammunition. I love my G38 and it has replaced my G26 as my daily carry.

Oh man. You're evil! I'm getting money together as we speak for the 38.

David_Ely: Thanks for the tip on Georgia Arms!
