I have a very, very nice savage sporter, the mag is marked savage 23A or NRA National Match.

I would like to date the rifle.
the serial number is 126399
the rifle is a real tac driver and my favorite 22. it seems to be very old, although in 98% condition. I think it is old because the mag release seems to be a very absolete design. I would be most grateful for any dating info.

Savage has been sold a couple times and went bankrupt in the 80's. They made millions of rifles and the records are hard to come by. I can't find a solid answer for you, a little info here;
