Hello to the wise and knowing GT brain trust.

I really enjoy pistols and have a number of different ones. I’m looking to do more objective accuracy and sight testing at distances where my (lack of) skill would add variability.

I was considering a ransom rest as the gold standard, but with the need for different inserts for different firearms, it might be more of a pain than it’s worth.

So my questions are:
For testing 5 shot groups at 5, 15, 25 and 50 yards of handguns ranging from LCPs to full size 1911s, what equipment should I look for?

If I bought a ransom rest, could I use a “universal” insert or a hack with some rubber or leather to do a “good enough” job?

What other commercial equipment would you recommend that highlights reproducibility (cost and size aren’t much of a factor)?

Please link to specific equipment that you’ve used and liked or not liked. Pictures of groups would also be helpful! Again, I’m not the best shooter so looking to decrease variability as much as possible.

Thanks so much!
