Tell me about wild pig hunting in CA, particularly around the East Bay Area or Northern CA in general. I've heard of local guys heading up into the foothills of Mt. Diablo and taking 200-400 pound hogs. Anybody know? I gre up there and just moved back.

There is truth to the stories about wild boar on Mt. Diablo. I know a guy who is under contract to hunt them on the state park land. Wild boar are also found in the backcountry that is within the triangular area formed by the towns of Livermore, Patterson and San Jose. They are also found on coastal mountains inland of Big Sur near Fort Hunter Liggett.

I would get a compound bow for hunting near developed areas and use a .30-30 Winchester for the backcountry.

Not too sure about the East Bay or North CA, but King City (South of Monterey) is hog heaven for taking piggies (by Pasa Robles and Fort ORD).
