I'd like you all to meet Elvis. My wife and I have been wanting another dog, the pound had mostly pit bulls which left us aprehensive about kids, neighbor's dogs, etc. so I did a little searching on petfinder.com and found this handsome fella. I pick him up thursday morning.

What, you mean you didn't pay $500 for an inbred show dog?

Hasn't anyone taught you what being a pet owner is all about?

Nope, didn't pay a penny. He has his shots, is neutered and the good folks running the rescue program don't charge a dime they just want their dogs to go to a good home. Inbred papered dogs don't live as long as a mix as you probably well know. I want a good pooch for a buddy, not for show or fancy paper. This one's mother is still there with him and is docile, obedient and well behaved, same characteristics he supposedly is displaying. I am so excited.

    That's what I was thinking...

    Good lookin dog... Congrats.

I love my GSD dearly, but I've saw very few "mutts" that I found were bad dogs. We had mostly mutts as kids, and they were all great dogs.

I had never heard of petfinder.com until this thread. I like Springers and Brittanys. I knew about the Rescue sites that specialize in certain breeds but the petfinder has much more dogs than any of the rescue sites I know of. It is a great resource.

I am not looking for another dog now (have two) but when I want another one, I am going to check out petfinder and see what they have.

It would be cool if every shelter, rescue site and homeless dog was listed on one site. Part of the problem is that there are too many different rescue places and they don't link up with each other.

There are probably a dozen perfect dogs within 50 miles of everyone who is looking but they just can't find them. For example, when I want another dog, I want a female Brittany with a good nature who is at least 2 years old. At any given time there is at least one dog that meets my wants within a reasonable distance, it is just finding it.
