For some strange reason, I have been on a fixed wing kick lately. I mostly fly helicopters, but I have been known to occasionally fly fixed wing. The other week I was looking at my log books, and noticed I met all of the requirements for a Commercial Airplane rating. I figured what the heck, and scheduled a checkride with a local examiner. I went out and got my 3 hours dual for the checkride "currency" and went for the test yesterday.

45 mintues in the oral, and 1.7 in the air later, I walked away with a nice white slip of paper now adding fixed wing priveledges to my commercial helicopter ratings.

Everything else from here on out is just an add-on rating. I gues I'll try to bust out a multi-engine rating as well.

Get a seaplane rating -- most fun I've had in an airplane!

    Congrats on the commercial rating.

Not a new rating, but I did save a lot of money on my CFII renewal.

I signed up with American Flyers two years ago to renew my CFII and paid $100 something for the lifetime on-line renewal course. Well I just renewed again last February. and it was free minus the cost of them doing the processing. It was cheaper for them to do the processing rather than me driving to the closest FISDO.

A free renewal. Can't beat that.
