Picked up a TM serial number G17 today at one of the local pawn shops. Unfortunately, it didn't have the original box but it does have the original black internals, two pin frame, uncaptured guide rod, and an original NDF magazine. I probably paid a little more than I should have for it, but I just couldn't risk letting it sit a few days so they would come down on the price. This is the first one I have ever personally seen with the uncaptured guide rod.

The PTOOMA Guide dates it at around January of 1990.

I'm in the process of cleaning it and I am thinking of going and grabbing another camera before I take pictures of it. I think even a current $100 point and click would take much better pictures than my old camera.

Keep the uncaptured guide rod-my range guys say that they were (and are) better than the captured ones.

This one is actually a 2nd generation. I am heading out to look at cameras right now.

I was going to snap some pics with my old camera, but it has pissed me off for the last time. Every once in a while, it won't turn on unless I pull the batteries out and completely reset it. This pisses me off to high hell because I have to reset the date and time before it will take pictures again.

Nice, I wish they would have kept the same grips as those. Just enough texture with no finger grooves. Looks like it hadn't had a bath in a while.

Yep. It was so nasty, at first I didn't think the parts were black, I thought they were just encrusted with carbon. But when I saw the non-captured recoil rod I started rubbing the parts real hard and then I could see the black underneath for sure.
