I generally use a 338 Win, but I've used the 416 Rigby to back up several hunts for brown bear when we were in places where the distance was likely to be viewed in feet, instead of yards.

And there's nothing wrong with a blued gun, just have to take care of it.

I agree, but I just prefer stainless and synthetic for my hunting rifles. At the least, synthetic.

I have a CZ 550 in .416 Rigby--stocked it with a McMillan handle and had it pillar bedded. In a modern gun you can safely load the Rigby to low end Remington specs. No need to though. There's not much on this earth you can't put on the ground with 400 grains at 2300 fps.

I shoot a lot of Hornady bullets in this caliber...OK alot is stretching it a bit. Nobody shoots a .416 anything much.... You burn a half a box of ammo and you will find an excuse to do something else. I like BELL brass for mine and will tell you a pound of powder doesn't go far with a .416...65-70 rounds depending...

I want a 404 Jeffery pretty badly. Almost sprung for one on the another board last year.
    I just like that cartridge...

I like my 404 much more than the 416. I don't find the recoil as rough, and the shorter throw of the bolt suits me better for a working gun.

But finding good bullets is a bit of a pain.

Luckily woodleigh, north fork and Barnes is about all I shoot.

I inherited my brother's custom .416 Remington. It is a stainless 700 action. Douglas barrel. McMillan stock. Muzzle brake and has a 3x9 Leupold mounted. I killed a huge bull moose with it a few years ago. Barnes X 400 grain bullet. It only took one.

I can't right now unfortunately, I'm TDY away from home. So she's locked safely in my safe.
