Wife might buy me a new gun. Leading choice right now is a Thompson Contender/Encore handgun, scoped, 14" or 15". What's the best caliber? Main uses: 1. Deer hunting. 2. Target shooting (50 to 200 yards). 3. SHTF sniper ;a My top choices, thus far: 1. .308 (How's the recoil on those full loads in a handgun?) 2. 7mm-08 (Should be good for deer) 3. .35 Rem (if in a used Contender) 4. .44mag (it would match my revolver) 5. .243 (not sure how I feel about that for deer) So, what say you?
