This is my newest daughter and my cat... seems I climbed out of bed and he moved up to where I was (cats and heat man...) and took over letting the baby know she was protected.

If you'd like, add your pet and pooter photos!

This is a rescue kitten, his mother was hit by a car. She was pretty bad off so I had to put her down. We found this little fella two days later. He is doing well as another one of our momma cats has taken him in with her litter.

I have heard a cat can smother a very young child but I think it may be an old wise tale but who knows?? Cute pics though.

the old WIVE'S tale is actually that cats would steal a baby's breath. it comes from mothers checking on the baby and finding the cat licking the milk from their lips.

but that's coming from my grandmother who would in one breath tell you that cats are furry little agents of satan, and then in the next breath praise cats for being reincarnated family members and excellent early warning systems against supernatural buggaboos.

I love cats, kittens and large dogs. Actually I enjoy most pets and animals. In some ways they are like people... some you like some you don't. But we have a small farm we are slowly building up so, you kinda have to enjoy animals.

I continually see animals caring for, responding to, protecting young children and babies. It always brings a tear to my eye to see that animals recognize that the very young are in need of nurturing and protecting.

Our Yorkie sat down with our newborn G'daughter and growled at any people walking too close to her. My SIL became an instant convert to dogs caring for children. Previously, he thought they were to be feared.

The same G'daughter, now grown, cares for my Son's full grown Akita, when they are out of town, the dog has the same protective characteristics with her.

I had a dog that has since passed that would actually babysit when you told him to. Great big Boxer, maybe 85lbs, solid muscle. We would sit my little 7 month old cousin on a pallet and tell Reno to "watch the baby".

He wouldn't let anyone except me, my mother, and my aunt get anywhere near the baby. And if she tried to crawl off the blanket, he would crawl around the edge and block her with his body, and alert you with a part bark, whine, growl noise if she was getting away from her. As she got older, he would wrestle with her. I've seen him break her fall by jumping under her with his belly up.

He'd throw his paws over her older brothers shoulders and run behind him on his hind legs, snarling and growling to no end, thinking he was about to eat him alive. He'd play hide and seek, and even pick up his own toys and put them in his basket.

To make a dog a good pet, you have to simply make them part of your "pack" and teach them what is expected of them. Pack mentality is in every dog.

Our cat(normally an evil *****) will now lay right under my wife now that she's pregnant with our son. The cat won't even get near me, but if the wife and I are on the couch, she will jump on my leg just to crawl over my wife's belly before settling in between the wife's legs. At night, as the wife is laid up on my in bed, the cat will lay right in the small of her back, get up with her every time she goes to pee, then get right back in "her spot" when my wife crawls back in bed.
