i preregistered, made reservations, signed up to help RO, loaded ammo and my bags. my vacation approvel got changed so i'm at work for the weekend.
Ed, that is a real bummer.
yeah it is danny but i suspected it was going to happen. i was going to drive to lexington on friday before the match and ended up working till 5:30 that friday, that was suspose to be a day off for me.
Since taking early retirement I've taken on a part-time security job, which often requires weekend work or worse yet, the 9pm to 7am shift. I will plan ahead for the 2008-209 GSSF Season.
Another perfect Saturday in FL.
thanks to the Range officers that helped.
75 degrees with clear blue skies,
Great course, helpful RO's
no long lines, got 4 runs in before 2pm.
As usual a first class operation.
We ran through 175 entries on Saturday and we still have Sunday to go!
The RO's that worked the match today(Saturday) and Friday's setup did a great job which made my job as Match Director much easier!
I can't say enough about the GSSF friends that showed to help with the match! THANK YOU EVERYONE!
Now on to Sunday and another great day!
ERML GSSF Match Director
See y'all in the morning. Looking forward to shooting.
I will be driving over in the morning and bringing two friends that came in from TX. Between us we will be shooting 12 categories. Hoping to be there around 8:30 so we can leisurely work through the stages.
It looks like Pensacola is on it's way to having one of the best matches of the year thanks to the effort of you and your friends. BRAVO!
We wish you could be here and enjoy the company!
This was the first match I've shot since the very first GSSF match in Georgia in the early 90's so I came essentially as a novice. Some impressions:
The RO's are great! They are very helpful and friendly while always enforcing their ultimate responsibility of range safety. RO's are the "user interface" to new shooters and they can make your experience fun and rewarding or scary and intimidating. There were a lot of RO's on site and without exception all that I encountered were top notch.
The GSSF match format is very easy to shoot but is certainly challenging enough to make it very interesting. Easy -- because the stages are shot from a single shooting position at the shooters own pace and the targets aren't too far away or moving. Hard -- because you're still fighting the age-old battle of accuracy versus speed. I have a new-found hatred for eight-inch steel plates. It looked so easy....
Match administration was very good. I did not have to wait in line and everything was quick and efficient.
There was a good crowd there and I mean that two ways. There were a lot of people in attendance and, as you would expect, those in attendance were friendly and helpful. I struck up several enjoyable conversations with strangers and more than one stranger offered to loan me something or otherwise help out. Actually, "stranger" is not the right word -- how about "friends I hadn't met yet".
Overall, a great day and a great experience. I'm inspired to shoot more often and will certainly seek out more GSSF matches to attend. In fact, I'll go back tomorrow for Day 2 and either shoot some more or offer to help out somehow. Thanks to all who made this event possible!
Comedian Dave Gardner one said :A stranger is a friend you ain't met yet." That's a good attitude to carry through life. Enjoy your second day at the match and confirm some new friendships.
Dang it! I was looking for a match in Pensacola. Does anyone know where they might shoot IDPA or a website maybe. I wish I would have known about this GSSF match. My parents live in Gulf Breeze. I could have used this match as an excuse to go see em...lol!!
Amen Danny...congrats to Dan and Et al......looks like a GOOD MATCH DIRECTOR will bring in the numbers with a little help from GSSF.
ERML club does do IDPA matches, get the date at the clubs web sight http://www.erml-gunclub.org
The complete GSSF schecule may be found at www.gssfonline.com
The 2008-2009 schedule will be posted by March 2008.
What a great weekend!! I was an RO for the first time on Friday and Saturday and received a lot of friendly help from the more experienced shooters. It was a great experience and I hope to do it again. I actually did my shooting today (Sunday) and also had a great experience. I had a great group on one of my long targets on the 5 to Glock. Too bad the group was in the D zone. No one laughed at the Miss on one long target in the Glock M and I managed to clear all the plates. (Slow, I will admit but I got them all) Thanks again to everyone and I sure plan to be back next year.
My personal thanks for helping with the match this weekend! I wish I could have cheered you on today while you were shooting.
What make a GREAT match are the GREAT people that help put the match on!
Thanks Again and come over and practice with us!
Here are some random shots from Sunday. I did clickable thumbnails rather than full size. Thought GT might blow a fuse.
