California is the first state to adopt a law paving the way for Black residents and descendants of slaves to receive reparation payments.

The legislation, which was authored by Assemblywoman Shirley Weber, a Democrat representing San Diego and chair of California's Legislative Black Caucus, does not commit to any specific payment. Instead, it establishes a nine-person task force that will study the impact of slavery on Black people in California and recommend to the Legislature what kind of compensation should be provided, who should receive it and what form that compensation will take.

Gov. Gavin Newson signed the law Wednesday afternoon.

With all those cruise ships tied up at the docks now, maybe a first class ocean passage back would be in order??

Well I’m all for paying one million dollars each to anyone who has been a slave or paying anyone who’s parents were slaves.

For starters, there's a 20 billion dollar tax increase on the California ballot for November, Proposition something or other I think. Or they could print a bunch more. :cowboy:

    https://ktla.com/news/california/ca...e-to-consider-paying-reparations-for-slavery/

California never had a government-sanctioned system of slavery. It entered the Union in 1850 as a free state after gold was discovered in the Sierra Nevada mountains. But the state did let slave-owning whites bring their slaves to California. The Legislature even passed a law making it legal to arrest runaway slaves and return them to their owners.

“California has come to terms with many of these issues, but it has yet to come to terms with its role in slavery,” said Assemblywoman Shirley Weber, a Democrat from San Diego who authored the bill.

When it all fails, and it will fail, CA will go to the Federal Government for rescue. Based on previous precendent, CA will be judged too big to fail. As a result, you and I will fund the CA bailout with our tax dollars.

Agreed. It was not a slave state. They also can’t even afford to pay attention so what business do they have indebting the state even FURTHER?!?!

Not enough collective brain cells in that state to creat an amoeba!

Truly and GALACTICALLY stupid idea. AGAIN.
