Ok Im going fishing this weekend on a small lake in northern SD. Iv had good luck with waleys there but never pan fish. The other guy im going with said it will be mostly night fishing for pan fish. Iv never heard of that in Augst. Any ideas what would be the best why to fish for them

Worms (wigglers are the best), crickets work down South.;c

worms and sml minnows work, You can use jigs but in my opinion they don't perform as good.

If you have lanteen/electric-light , tie it off the side of the boat/pier/etc to draw the bugs and flys which draws the fish ;)

You didn't mention what panfish but certain species can be hard in august, the biting starts to really pick up around late oct early ,nov for crappie down here and everything else. Good luck.

Worms will work with both bluegill and crappy. So will small jigs, small spinners, small plugs, well small anything. I used to slay crappy on live minnows during their run at a lake back in Ohio as a kid.

Only lake pan fish we ever fished was catfisj with doughballs tied to the shore.

Set them at night and get your catfish at the shore in the morning!
