I want a new .40 and I'd like to make an anti-gunner cringe somewhere in the world.

Therefore, I'm in the market for a big, bad .40 S&W.

I just got my P226 MK25.....freaking solid gun. Most accurate handgun I've ever fired...either that, or it just 'clicks' with me....so I'm impressed with Sig's latest output.

I also used to have a 90-Two in .40 and it was a SMOOTH shooter.....so I have experience with the Beretta, but only experience with the P229's bigger brother.

    I can get a P229R w/ night sights for $769 thru Sig's IOP program-

    http://www.topgunsupply.com/sig-sauer-p229r-9mm-da-sa-legacy-iop.html

I can get the Beretta 96A1 for $599 thru Grab-A-Gun-

    http://grabagun.com/beretta-96a1-40sw-4-9-bl-3-12rd.html

Beretta 96A1 comes with 3 mags, but no night sights.

P229 comes with 2 mags, but has night sights.

If I got a Beretta 96A1, I'd like to get some Trijicon night sights for it, unfortunately, my local smiths are hack jobs, so I'd probably have to send the slide off to get the sights pushed out and the new ones installed.

Choices...........someone point me in the right direction. I'd like to get both, but I'm PCSing to Korea soon, and wanna enjoy whatever I get.

I love the Berettas, but am not a fan of the .40 versions. If I have to have .40 between those choices I'd pick the P229.

My work has been issuing P229's for a long time, they have all been solid guns.

Buy the P229 and I sell you on top a .357 SIG barrel for it.

I vote Sig, especially if you currently have a 226.

I'd look for an older P229.

Out of the two choices, if you want a .40, go with the Sig. The 229 is still my favorite .40 cal pistol.

(Yes people, even over a HK!) :wow:

That 229 is an amazing deal. Not sure if I want railed or non-railed yet.

I see too many "No Beretta" signs hung in various buildings, so I'd go with the SIG P229 :)

I have an older (no-rail) P229 in .357, and have recently picked up a P229R/.40. If you like the Mk 25, you'll feel right at home with the P229.

I like Sig over Beretta. So far my score board is 7 vs 3.
