I just got my first 17 and took it to the range. I love it! I shot FMJ Winchester ammo today. I didn't shoot any of the +P and +P+ I bought, because I wanted to hear any concerns about shooting that stuff in a Stock G17, e.g. Does it need a stronger recoil spring?

No, but a Stainless Steel Guide Spring Rod always helps with accuracy due to added weight... the +P and +P+ just decreases your Glock Barrel Life in half, so use it in moderation.

What is your citable source for this?

It is not the case. Many police departments use +P and +P+ with no significant degradation in barrel life.

I asked the same thing in "Calibar Corner" and I was told this by about 30 people... go argue with them.

    What is barrel life?

Even if it is half of whatever round count it is the "end" (God knows did not the Hirtenberger Glock test go well past 300,000 rounds with nothing but springs change?) but lets say its 50,000 rounds...who could afford 25,000 rounds of +P+ through your gun? Seems to be a non issue unless that's all you shoot.

I never understood the reason for the whole +p, +p+ thing.
Is a regular 9mm load not enough?

You have no citable source and you are passing on conjecture as truth?

No problem +p and +p+ is good to go in a G17, no accessories needed.

I use +p+ in my stock G19 when its out in the field hunting with me. Ive got maybe 2-300 +p+ through it and 2000 nato rounds through it, no problems here.

That makes two of us! I don't think the bad guys carry cronos and clock incoming rounds.

Your barrel will be fine with +P & +P+ (from a good manufacturer), and don't forget 9mm NATO which is normally hotter than standard 9mm. Your Glock will be fine with any of it. I really think the +P or +P+ designator is meant to keep modern ammunition out of 100 year old guns that can't handle the increased pressure.

Like most other members said +P+ is fine to shoot from your Glock. I do it all the time with no mods to the gun.

I used to use Rem 9mm + P hollowpoints in my Glock 19C years ago and it worked fine.
