I'd put money that's there's going to be political hell to pay over this.

What in the world could they have done to that young man to put him in the shape he was in.

"When Otto returned to Cincinnati late on June 13th he was unable to speak, unable to see and unable to react to verbal commands. He looked very uncomfortable — almost anguished. Although we would never hear his voice again, within a day the countenance of his face changed — he was at peace. He was home and we believe he could sense that."

The "canned sunshine" approach kills a lot of people who done nothing to this foolish boy. He wanted to experience a communistic society, looks like he got schooled...

Obama never did a single thing to help him. Not one thing! The media hasn't said a single word about this. Typical b.s. from the ex poseur in chief.

The North Koreans held onto him for more than a year knowing he was in a coma, so their releasing him clearly wasn't an act of compassion. They obviously realized his vitals were declining rapidly and got rid of him so he would die in American custody.

Of course Obama didn't help him- he was white!

Sucks to be dead but he went into the lions den and stuck his head in the trap when he stole that banner. You don't Fock around with crazy, especially when you know they take their relatives out with artillery guns.

On the local new conference the UC docs stated there was no trauma to his body, no broken bones or fractures.

I would rather punish the heartless GT members who called him stupid for going there when I originally posted that the NKs basically killed him. He was a kid who didn't deserve to be tortured and killed. The *******s who said he deserved what he got for going there are the true *******s. Anyone who wants to argue with me about this can **** off- put me on ignore..

Or maybe they are realists who wish to correctly attibute the actions of what happened, and use descretion when calling for the deaths of untold thousands of people, on both sides, because "Skippy" wanted some really cool selfies in the mean old North Korea.
What price to stop another monster? Saddam was expensive, and we are still paying for that butcher's bill.
Deserve ain't got nothing to do with it...

Or teach American diwmits not to travel to the most despotic regime on the planet and commit vandalism. Sorry, but the guy was an idiot just for going there, and a full fledged moron if he actually committed the vandalism. Bad things magically seem to happen to stupid people.

Further, " . . . his father . . . accused the tour operator of specifically targeting young Westerners with slogans like, "This is the trip your parents don't want you to take!"
    https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Otto_Warmbier

Yep. Terribly sad for the parents. I think we can all empathize with the horror faced by the parents. But the whole incident was foreseeable and avoidable. Don't travel to despotic regimes, and be home by 11:00 p.m before the shooting starts at the night club. Good rules for a long life.

Edited to add: around 1983, I traveled to Uzbekistan as a 20 year old. This was when Andropov was briefly the Soviet Premier. My roommate was a rich kid who had never suffered any consequences in life for bad behavior. One day he thought it would be swell to throw rocks out the hotel window at Uzbek paramilitary types in uniform. They pointed up at or near our window, and I fled. We somehow escaped without ending up as someone's she-slave in an Uzbek prison. So I can relate to poor Otto's stupidity, though I was not the rock thrower in Uzbekistan. I suspect that this was perhaps the first time that Otto learned what consequences are. Better to learn them at age 3 than age 21. Like Otto, my rich kid roommate later found consequences when he shot out car windows with a BB gun and was chased and arrested. I think it all comes down to never having learned that bad behavior has consequences.

Very true and sad. But as unjust, unfair or savage as it may seem, he brought it on himself. And as harsh as it may sound, he alone is responsible. Prayers for his family.

I'd bet the bank on it. Timing was of the essence when the request came an not a minute to soon.
