Ordered my First AR - the disease has begun

Ordered a Spikes Tactical from Aimsurplus today. They had sold out, but when I visited the page today it became available so ordered one. Right after I ordered it, it said sold out again so I am thinking that maybe someone called and canceled and one got put back into inventory. I really debated going with PSA, and I still might for a future build/purchase. I thought long and hard on the Patrol Rifle they currently have, but I don't really want an Aimpoint right now. My plan for the ST is to put a 1-4x optic on it and maybe a flip up BUIS.

I'll post back when I get it with pics and hopefully a range report. I am sure some might say I should have gone with XYZ, but I think at the price and feature set, I think it will serve me well. This will actually be my first AR that I own. I've fired plenty in the past, but never really fell in love with the AR. I wanted something that would be cheaper to shoot than my other rifles and would be lighter and easier for my wife to shoot.

You picked up a nice, good rifle at a good price. Don't look back. Aim Surplus is a good place to do business with and if you are like many of us, it won't stop with one. have fun with it.
Congrats on your first AR, which will probably be the first of many. Everyone has their opinion on the "best" value AR, etc. The ST should serve you well. I have a ST lower attached to a Colt upper, and I love it. Good luck with it and be sure to post pics along with your range report.
Congrats! ST has some quality stuff, great for a first AR. Have fun!
Congrats.

I have been shooting a Spikes 10.5 for a year now. Despite my previous extreme reservations about Spikes......that upper is fantastic.
Yeah, you've done it now. You're addicted, start saving for the next one.

Best of luck, and good shooting.

I think at most, I'll ever own two ARs. I think the next one will be a 20 inch upper, haven't decided on whether or not to have a collapsible stock or not for the 20 incher.

I like to try to get two of a rifle that I really like. I have twin boys, so one day I don't want them fighting over dear old Dad's guns. I think I'd like to get a couple more Garands though - can't have enough of those :) . The other day I missed buying a rifle I've wanted for a while - an Enfield Jungle Carbine. I was at an Appleseed shoot and one instructor sold another instructor a great looking Jungle Carbine. I definitely would have paid more, alas it was not meant to be :( .

+1 :wavey: Enjoy!
I've already admitted to my AR addiction and I only have one, but I can't stop looking for things to buy for it/saving money for things to buy for it. One thing is fact, I am NOT a quitter!!

HAH! Thats what I thought too. First I got my Stag/RRA 16" mid-length, then I built a 18" varmit gun, then I got a 16" middy dissipator, now I'm saving for a 20" A4 and a REPR. I was convinced all I would ever need was the first 16" Stag/RRA middy I had. BRD's reputation is well earned.

You may be right, but ideally I'd like to get a FAL and an M1A as my next rifles. I've always liked the FALs and the M1A is another must have. If I do get another AR it will either be just an upper to swap out or it will have to wait its turn in line, which will probably be awhile (kids are expensive).

I was really hoping to get the AR by this Friday and do a range report, but it looks like it won't arrive until after the weekend - probably go shoot the .22 and the newly returned G19 (hopefully no more brass to the face). I wish all ammo was as cheap as .22lr.
