does anyone know if this free progam is compatable with vista?

My wife just needs a basic program, and i'm not paying for MS
version of office. It just reaches a point folks where i'm
not paying for new software just because MS comes out with a new
    operating system!

Maybe i'm screwed, but i'd like to explore other options. I'll
pay for another program, but not over $160 for MS office.

Does anyone have some suggestions. Thank you.

I use openoffice for Fedora and for XP. I like it better than Microsoft's software. Yes it is free.
