I just received an alert from the NRA as I'm sure most of you did that the Brady group is pressuring Starbucks to prohibit the legal carry of firearms by customers in their stores.

Apparently Starbucks is holding their ground and sticking to the 2a but Brady is gathering a petition to pressure them.

Please take a moment to go to this comments page for Starbucks and write a short note urging them to continue to support legal carry for customers and also employees (not sure what their employee policy is).

Your 30 seconds to do this will help:

    Done.

I hope they stand their ground on that policy, I'd hate to boycott another place with good food/drink (I'm looking at you, Tacomac).

I am a starbucks employee. The weapons policy for employees is no weapons of any kind on the company property. Violation of this policy is immediate termination.

Actually is a great idea. Can be used on any corporation. They hear $$$ louder than letters. Only I hate their coffee and despise their prices.

They should compromise and put up a sign that all firearms must be carried in compliance with the laws of the state.

This will also make the gang bangers and felons take their guns back to their car before getting their mo-ca latte. Sounds like a win/win.

    Done.

I suggested a policy that all firearms must be carried in compliance with the laws of the state and referred to the National Parks poicy (state carry laws apply within).

Done, but if you ccw be smart and don't say anything to them. I go into all kinds of places (like Walmart) who have 'their policies' I don't care about their offical position on ccw. I am legally licensed by the state to carry and as long as I don't go into the 'forbidden places' like schools and hospitals I never give it a second thought. The only thing a store can do is to ask you leave. And if they ever did, I'd never go back.

Yes but not every state has that policy. In NC if there is a no guns sign posted it is illegal to carry.
You don't have to tell them you are carrying a weapon. Just tell them you are there because of their policy

In Ohio it is Criminal Trespass which means you lose your CCW.

The Brady Campaign may be pettitioning Starbucks to disallow carrying of firearms into their stores, but Starbucks has already made it clear they are not budging. Well done Starbucks!!!

If you just order "coffee", the prices are reasonable.

I'm not going to enter into a debate over the ramifications of carrying on properties that have 'policies' I don't carry my weapon into NGZ's 'No Gun Zones' are part of the 'Forbidden Places' That I mentioned above. Carrying in NGZ's would be asking for trouble.

I have been told by law enforcement that in WA it's not trespassing unless you cross an existing property line and are asked to leave by the property owner or one of his reps. that you would most likely not be charged with trespass unless you refused to leave. Even in the city of Seattle where the mayor imposed a city ordinance to prohibit the legal carrying of concealed firearms on city properties, if you were caught carrying on city property (other than the usual 'forbidden places') the most the police could do is check to see if you were legally licensed to ccw. If you were legal they would then ask you to leave the property until you could return unarmed.

All I'm saying is unless that starbucks has a metal detector at the entrance, the "Don't ask - Don't tell" rule of thumb works fine for me. :dunno:
